北韓9日進行核爆，各國反應強烈。南韓、日本、大陸和美國均立即譴責。南韓總統朴槿惠指責金正恩行為「瘋狂魯莽」，「挑釁只會加速自我毀滅」。日本準備單獨對北韓實施進一步制裁。
南韓總統朴槿惠在寮國首都永珍表示，北韓核試證明其領導人金正恩「瘋狂魯莽」，明顯違反聯合國安理會決議，挑戰國際社會，完全漠視全球希望他放棄追求核武呼籲。
朴槿惠說，「金正恩政權再次核試只會招致更多制裁和孤立，如此挑釁將加速其走向自我毀滅。」朴槿惠還決定提前返國。
在永珍的日相安倍說，絕不允北韓強行核試。安倍昨與歐巴馬10分鐘熱線會談，兩人認為有必要對北韓採取包括新制裁措施。
日本政府當天召開國安保障會議（NSC）閣僚級會議，防衛省出動自衛隊飛機蒐集調查大氣中是否有輻射物質。安倍下達指示：緊急蒐集分析資訊、提供正確資訊給國民、與美韓中俄等國加強合作。日本政府發言人菅義偉說，「已由北京大使館向北韓提出嚴正抗議。」
美總統歐巴馬透過白宮聲明，將與盟友及夥伴商議，「確保北韓挑釁行動面臨嚴重後果」。
大陸外交部在官網發表聲明指出，「朝鮮不顧國際社會反對再次核試驗，中國政府對此表示堅決反對。中方將同國際社會一道，堅定推進半島無核化目標，堅持通過六方會談解決問題。」
